Update III

August 29, 2010

Looking fuller and more like a typical Kuwaiti suburb, Google Earth have updated again recently and the above is the current view.  No new roads are visible, which means the next update will look much more complete.  There are signs of the preliminary work done on the main routes.

If you’re interested in how it looked before, click here for how it looked in March 2007; and here for February 2009.

Oil Spill

August 6, 2010

I arrived this morning from a business trip. When I read on 248am and Nicole B blogs about a spill near the North Pier, I headed straight to the beach and saw the action there.  There were two security cars.  Having just arrived from 12 hour flight, the last thing I wanted to do is argue about taking photos.  I chickened out – so please click the links in this post for more information.

A new day in a new town

July 3, 2007

It’s been a long time since I posted a photo here… I need to spend some more time on this – but it’s been a busy month.

This was taken in Mangaf south of the Hilton Resort. It was a perfect morning for a nice sunrise shot. Nice to be able to highlight an area of the town that doesn’t need to be built… It’s perfect just the way it was created.

Bye for now…

In case you thought it’s only new houses on a desert…
It’s been a while since I took any photos of the developments in Mangaf… But this was taken from Al-Kout Mall in Fahaheel (the town next door) and it shows all the residential buildings by the sea.

The new part of Mangaf is all houses and schools but this should provide you with a different perspective. The buildings closer (on the left of the photo) come under Fahaheel but the ones in the distance are Mangaf-by-Sea.

Light at the end of the …

April 15, 2007
I have to admit, it sometimes feels like nothing ever happens here for months. But when I look at the photographs I take in this area I realise that there is progress being made on building the local schools (and some shops) – as well as the new petrol stations (will have a separate post soon).

Still no roads on my side of town – which can be fun at times but is usually a pain…

I took this photo recently of the roads near the coastal road (The Hilton Resort) and they’ve erected the posts to hold the street lamps…. I know it sounds a little sad but I’m really excited that we will be having LIGHT AT NIGHT!

Can’t wait for the road network to reach us – but for some reason nothing is happening on that front.

Watch this space…

Time for a fresh supply

March 10, 2007

I have not taken any photos of the recent developments…. This, I hope, will be my last of the old batch (I still have a few but will not blog them here). I will soon get out there (once the dust storms are gone) and get a fresh supply.

The sewage tanker in the photograph drives around selling his services. As disgusting as it sounds it is one of the most important jobs in the area to sustain it until the services are completed.
