Drive Through

January 28, 2010

It’s been a while since I posted and there have been many developments.  The area is one big mess, but if you look at the big picture, it’s getting there… I can’t wait for all the mud to go and the noise of the heavy trucks and builders.

Instead of taking lots of photos, I took a short drive around block 1 (and a tiny bit of 2) and speeded up the boring bits.  I will repeat this when there is a visible difference to the area I filmed.

Less than a year from now, this will be a memory and we will have a town that looks as boring as any other town in Kuwait :) I can’t wait.

In case you’re wondering, the background music is Les Hooper’s ‘Muddy Road’.

Electric Cables?

There are many of these next to the main substation (Mangaf D) on the coastal road opposite the Hilton.  Anyone know what they’re for?

Electricity

A few weeks ago, we lost power at the house…. The whole house.

I checked everything and it didn’t make sense…. Every time I switch the boxes on, they go off again. The thing that puzzled me even more was that the AC remained on throughout.

To cut a long story short, when we finally convinced the Ministry technician to come out, he confirmed that the earthing of the house has a current! This is not good.

The reason: They broke into the substation and stole a cable. The technician was not at all surprised saying it happens all the time! He smiled and said “Ali Baba had been there”. He showed me what they had done starting with the breaking of the padlock outside.

As a rule, I don’t wish bad things on people – but I make an exception here. It would be so wonderful if they get electrocuted next time they attempt this! I pray this happens soon.
