This photo by Ramon Marbella captures last year’s dramatic sandstorm as it hit Mangaf. It was taken from Kuwait Meteorological Department website, and was the second place winner in their recent photo competition. In my opinion it should have been number 1.

I arrived this morning from a business trip. When I read on 248am and Nicole B blogs about a spill near the North Pier, I headed straight to the beach and saw the action there. There were two security cars. Having just arrived from 12 hour flight, the last thing I wanted to do is argue about taking photos. I chickened out – so please click the links in this post for more information.

It seems the rumours of the Blue Elephant closing are true. I hate to be the one who confirms this but the restaurant is changing! It will remain “oriental” but will not be part of the same international chain. I first tried this restaurant in Copenhagen, then in London. My wife and I have eaten at this one on average twice a month for the past year. They’ve even mastered our meals for take-away (Thanks Alex). I’m surprised they’re not making enough money just out of the two of us.
The good news is that the great staff will be the same – which means we will still have delicious food and good service.
I will miss seeing this logo.
