Good News…

July 3, 2008

I think I’m the first to announce this – and I don’t know details at this stage.

This morning I saw two men with theodolites. I stopped and asked them what they’re doing and they confirmed it’s for the roads for blocks 1 and 2. They had plans for all the roads in the new area. They didn’t know any more about timing etc.

It’s nice to see the first step. It means we have not been forgotten.

Update 5 July 2008:

See the quote below from MEED magazine (published 15 June). This means that the guys I saw were from one of the bidding contractors. With bids closing early August – I would guess work could commence before the end of the year. This year that is.

” Construction and maintenance of roads, rain and drainage water and other services at the Mangaf area, stage 3, for the Public Works Ministry. Bid bond is KD 400,000. A pre-bid meeting will be held on 29 June. Open to prequalified contractors only. Tender no RE/131.

Details on payment of KD2,000 from Central Tenders Committee, PO Box 1070, Safat 13011, telephone (965) 2401200, fax (965) 2416574.

I’m not going to hold my breath.. I think it’s utterly ridiculous to have no streets at this point.

And I’m hoping that streets will cut down on the number of creepy crawlies in my house/hosh (2 wolf spiders, 1 scorpion were the worst offenders).

I know how difficult it can be to remain positive about this, but this is definitely a step in the right direction. I hope it starts soon…

Good luck with your creepy crawlies :) Remember they were here first – but we’ll soon scare most of them away.

Sorry it’s not clear (I’ve just changed the title) but I’m talking about finally getting roads for blocks 1 and 2.

Thank you both for your visits and comments.

btw above deleted comment was the same as above with spelling errors!

You know – even though I am the one who uploads the photographs, I get the same feeling when I work on my blog from an airport lounge somewhere far away.

  6. [...] posted about the roads tender back in July and I’ve been following up the “progress” – very slow progress – on the government [...]
