Is this a sign?

March 24, 2008

The new Blocks diagrams have been displayed on road 101 in Mangaf. I’m pleased to see that they’ve gone for the five blocks in this very simple split. It makes a complicated town very simple. When we were searching for a house, I saw maps of Mangaf with seven blocks!

If you live here, you will have also noticed some of the door numbers being placed on houses.

Does this mean roads are finally coming?

Mangaf in Bloom

March 21, 2008
This photo was taken in April last year. Back then most hoses were still grey. When one house was painted its final colour, it really stood out from the rest.

Today, more and more houses are being completed and the town’s colour (even before any landscaping) is beginning to form.

This has to be a record for me…. I should probably get stuck at airports more often!

650 Days

March 21, 2008
Not long now before most of these signs are removed. I have seen (and photographed) most of the projects that have lasted two years. Most are planned for completion in 2008.

The above is impressive and on time.

But I have to ask:

1. When do we start with the roads/infrastructure in Blocks 1 & 2 ?
2. Where is our co-op which was planned for completion end 2008!?

Do you remember?

March 21, 2008
This time last year was a mess on the northern side of Mangaf. They were updating the pipleines for the Mina Al Ahmadi North Pier (the one visible from the Hilton beach).

According to the plans, this as well as the area opposite (Abu Halifa side) is designated as a major park area.

One day !!

Life Lines

March 21, 2008
These really are lifelines for many people in my area of Mangaf. To be able to have been connected over the past two years (before wireless internet was available) was really really needed. It is only possible because of our proximity to the existing MAngaf telephone exchange.

They do look ugly but thank god they’re temporary. I’ve seen these all over the world (Eurpoe included) where they are used as the standard connection erected in front of houses and offices.

Population Check

March 21, 2008
We moved into our house in July 2006. I took this photo in September 2006.

I don’t think there are any official records available – but for my particular area, 2006 population of pigeons/hens was higher than human residents.

How things change in one year. Many more people have moved into their new homes…. bird flu helped too. I wish I could say the same about our neighbourhood’s rats! Their population always seems to be increasing.
